A Shelbina man was seriously injured after the vehicle he was driving was struck by a train. The accident occurred shortly after noon today at a private crossing, one mile west of Shelbina. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2000 Volvo driven by 46-year old Donald Leftwich failed to yield at the crossing and attempted to cross the tracks when an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train struck the driver’s side. The crossing had only a stop sign, and no crossing guard or flashing lights to alert vehicles. Leftwich suffered serious injuries and was taken by Salt River Ambulance to Blessing Hospital for treatment.
