Palmyra Scholars Overtake Hallsville To Claim Third

The Palmyra Panthers’ lone win Saturday in Columbia was enough for them to claim third place at the Class Four MSHSAA State Scholar Bowl Challenge.  Despite losing their three round-robin matches, the Panthers were able to regroup and defeat Hallsville in the third-place game, 440-210.  Captain Tim Wellman highlights how they fared better in the rematch.

Wellman commended his teammates for stepping up to the challenge.

Palmyra had lost to Hallsville in their first match, 450-200.  Hallsville captain Lauren Blakemore claimed eight tossups in that contest.  The Indians’ bid for a state title was dented by an overtime loss to Sullivan in the next round, followed by a 550-240 loss to College Heights Christian of Joplin.  College Heights defeated Sullivan 560-170 to win their third straight championship.

In Class Six, Hickman struggled against their competition, ultimately falling to Springfield Kickapoo 440-280 in the third-place game.  Saint Joseph Central pulled away late from Parkway West to win their first state title, 430-310.  Clayton defeated Saint Louis Priory in the Class Five championship, while Smithville edged Rolla for third.
