Kirksville Police Department Arrest Assault Suspect after Standoff

An arrest has been made by the Kirksville police department after a standoff with an assault suspect this (Fri.) evening. The Kirksville police department reports at approximately 3:28p.m. they responded to the 400 block of North Mulanix Street in reference to a reported assault.

The police were informed a male suspect armed with a firearm and a cutting instrument had committed an assault in that area. The suspect had barricaded himself in a house in the 300 block of East Illinois Street.

A perimeter was established and the police attempted to call the suspect out of the house.

The Kirksville Special Response Team was activated. After multiple attempts to call the suspect out, police entered the house and located the suspect hiding in the attic. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident or injury. The suspect, at this time. is identified only as a 52-yearly white male from Kirksville.

No further information will be released about the suspect pending criminal charges. Kirksville police were assisted by the Adair County Sheriff’s office, Missouri state Highway Patrol, Truman State University Police, and the Adair County Ambulance and Kirksville Fire district.
