Franklin Man Arrested and Charged Following Fatal Stabbing

A Franklin man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal stabbing on Labor Day in Howard County. Howard County Sheriff Deputies initially responded to a report of a stabbing victim in the 400 block of Crew Street in Franklin just before 5 pm on Monday. Deputies and medical personnel arrived to find 22-year old Courtney Clardy dead from apparent stab wounds. The Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad was activated and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control was also brought in to assist the investigation. A suspect was identified in the form of 44-year old Emmett Wood Jr. of Franklin. With the help of the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office, the Boonville Police Department, the New Franklin Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Wood was located and arrested Tuesday at approximately 11 am in a wooded area south of Glasgow. Wood has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held in the Howard County Jail, without bond.
