Cold Temperatures Will Put Young Vegetable Plants at Risk

Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 30s the next three nights, including around or below freezing Saturday night. Dave Trinklein, State Floriculture Specialist at the University of Missouri, says gardeners are at risk of losing some of their early plantings.

He says gardeners can put insulated material over the young plants.

Those coverings need to be removed as quickly as possible the next day to allow the plants to resume photosynthesis. Floating row cover can also help provide some protection.
