Boonville Woman Killed in Accident on I-70 in Cooper County

A Boonville woman is dead following a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 70 in Cooper County. The accident occurred at 6:30 this morning near the 114.6 mile marker. A 2002 Kia Sportage driven by 35-year old Chantel Winfield of Boonville lost control on the ice covered roadway and traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a concrete barrier and returned to the roadway. Winfield then attempted to exit the vehicle while it was still in motion, but it was then struck by a tractor trailer truck driven by 51-year old Michael Gulley of Lawrence, Kansas. This resulted in Winfield’s vehicle traveling off the right side of the road causing her to be ejected as the vehicle struck a concrete barrier. Winfield was pronounced dead at the scene. Gulley was uninjured in the accident.
