Westran Rolls Marceline for Key Conference Victory

The Westran Hornets ran their Lewis & Clark Conference record to 3-0 Monday thanks to a dominant 14-2 win over Marceline. First inning control problems for Marceline starter Reece Svendsen set the the Hornets up for early success.

Colin Schowe with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Rick Stephenson added a sacrifice fly to give the Hornets an early 3-0 lead. Svendsen was chased from the mound during a five-run second for the Hornets to build an 8-1 lead. Cooper Harvey led-off the third with a solo home run. Stephenson completed the early onslaught three batters later.

The Hornets concluded the game with 14 runs on 11 hits. Harvey, DC Dale, Marshall Kitchen, and Grady Colley all had two hits each. Coach Tyler Tanner said its was a team effort offensively.

On the mound, Harvey struck out ten Marceline hitters over six innings of work. Tanner discussed his starting pitcher’s performance.

Svendsen and Harrison Green drove in the runs for the Tigers. Coach Ryan Collins said mistakes hurt them throughout the game.

The Tigers also committed three errors in the defeat. They drop to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the Lewis & Clark. Collins discussed the message to his team following the loss.

Marceline visits Scotland County Thursday. Westran improves to 7-2 and will host Knox County on Thursday.
