Truman Outlasts Michigan Tech to Advance to the Elite Eight

Truman State is the NCAA Division II Men’s Midwest Regional champion….

Brad Boyer with the final call of Truman’s 65-62 victory over Michigan Tech Tuesday night at the Ford Center in Evansville. The Bulldogs led 28-18 at halftime led by Cade McKnight’s 15. Michigan Tech opened the second half on a 23-4 run to take a nine point lead while getting a 4th foul on McKnight. A key sequence came with the Bulldogs down 49-44 and Tech ready to take the ball. A video review determined Huskies big man Trent Bell committed a flagrant two foul and was ejected from the game. Elijah Hazekamp hit both free throws and Masen Miller buried a three as part of nine straight Truman points and it was back and forth the rest of the way.

McKnight came back in the game for the final two minutes and scored six in a row including the game-winner with Truman trailing by one….

After an inbounds pass sailed out of bounds, Hunter Strait buried two free throws for the final margin. Bulldogs coach Jeff Horner reacted to his team advancing to the program’s first Elite Eight since 1999….

McKnight scored 21 points and was named the Midwest Regional MVP. He talked postgame about how he was able to come back into the game cold and produce in the clutch….

When the Huskies were rolling, Turner Scott scored seven in a row to steady the team. Scott talked about how the team got off the mat and won a championship…..

Scott was also named to the all-tournament team. Elijah Hazekamp collected 15 rebounds and scored 10 points. Dylan Peeters scored 13 and Miller added 11. The Bulldogs improve to 20-2 and advance to the Elite Eight Wednesday, March 24th back at the Ford Center in Evansville. Seeding will be revealed Wednesday.
