Truman Football 2021 Preview With Coach Nesbitt

The Truman State football team looks to continue a string of playing postseason games in 2021. The Bulldogs’ win in the inaugural Crossroads Bowl in December of 2019 set a program-record for victories in a season, with 10. After the 2020 fall season was canceled by the pandemic, the ‘Dogs lost the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Game at Indianapolis this past spring. The dean of the GLVC coaches, Gregg Nesbitt, enters this 12th season leading Truman football. He says the abbreviated spring season gives his team a jump start on this campaign….

One of the graduation losses was two-time 1st Team All-GLVC linebacker Reed McBroom of Brookfield. Nesbitt will lean on another KRES All-Star, Isaiah Estes, for leadership, but says the former Fayette Falcon will need to take the next step in his development….

Estes earned Honorable Mention All-GLVC recognition in the spring, with his highlight being a scoop and score at Missouri S & T. The Bulldogs return one the top tight ends in the country in Jake Ellis. The 6-7 senior has 21 touchdown receptions in 35 career games….

In the spring championship game Nesbitt alluded to, Ellis had 11 catches for 138 yards and a score. He’ll be joined at the tight end spot by Rock Bridge graduate Matt Hall, who had seven receptions and two touchdowns in the championship game. Quarterback Nolan Hair was named GLVC Freshman of the Year in the spring. The Blair Oaks graduate threw for 818 yards in four spring games with nine touchdowns and three picks.

Nesbitt says his special teams units will be strong….

Josh Scheiderer has already made 35 field goals in two-and-a-half seasons. Gregg Nesbitt’s Bulldogs were picked 3rd in the GLVC Preseason Coaches Poll behind Indianapolis and Lindenwood. Truman was also mentioned by the publication, College Football America, in their top 30 Division II teams at number 29.

The non-conference schedule features two trips to Michigan and one to Ohio starting with Davenport on September 4th. Once again, Superstation KRES will be your “Voice of the Bulldogs” this season.
