State Ranked Moberly Looks to Keep Strong Season Going Against Boonville

The Moberly Lady Spartans are looking to maintain their strong season when they host district rival Boonville Thursday night. The Lady Spartans are 15-3 on the season and ranked eighth in Class 2. Moberly has split a pair of games against state-ranked opponents this week, beating Marshall 2-1 and falling 5-1 Hannibal. Coach Bridger Pretz said he was pleased with the effort his team put out in both games.

The Lady Spartans have been powered offensively by Ella Mathes and Zaylee Heaton. Mathes leads the team with 28 goals and 14 assists while Heaton follows with 19 goals and 11 helpers. However, Heaton will miss her second straight game after picking up an injury Monday against Marshall. Pretz says they have a next player up mentality.

They’ll face a Boonville squad that is coming off a 1-0 overtime win over Smithton on Tuesday night. The Lady Pirates are 6-7 this season under third-year head coach Alec Adair. Pretz says they can’t look past them.

Moberly has won the last two meetings against the Lady Pirates. Pretz discusses the keys to success.

Pregame coverage from Dr. Larry K Noel Spartan Stadium begins at 4:45 on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
