Spring is Primetime for Mushroom Hunting in Missouri

The spring months often mean mushrooms begin to pop up throughout Missouri. These include the popular morel and chanterelle mushrooms. Knox County Conservation Agent Dustin Snead details the best places to locate these mushrooms.

When it comes to picking and preparing morels, Snead says he has a simple approach.

Missouri has several different edible and poisonous types of mushrooms. The Missouri Department of Conservation provides a detailed guide on the state’s different mushrooms. Snead says there are a couple of other things to keep in mind.

MDC’s mushroom guide can be found online at mdc.mo.gov or picked up at state nature centers.
