South Shelby Hosts Monroe City in Key Clarence Cannon Conference Matchup

Clarence Cannon Conference play heats up when South Shelby hosts Monroe City in a varsity basketball doubleheader Tuesday night. In the girls game the South Shelby Ladybirds will look to move above the .500 mark in conference play when they face the Lady Panthers for the second time this season. The Ladybirds won the first matchup 44-34 at the Monroe City Tournament. Coach Luke O’Laughlin says Monroe’s defense is tough to solve.

Both teams are 1-1 in Clarence Cannon Conference play. The Lady Panthers bring a 10-8 record into the matchup and have won seven of their last eight games. Coach Adam Rung says the Ladybirds present multiple challenges.

The boys’ game is also a rematch from the Monroe City Tournament where the Panthers beat the Cardinals 47-37. Coach Kent O’Laughlin expects another tightly contested affair.

South Shelby is 10-8 on the season while the Panthers are 11-7. Both teams are 2-0 in CCC play. Quincy Mayfield leads a balanced Panther attack with 11.8 points-per-game. Coach Brock Edris says that balance will be important against the Cardinals.
