South Shelby Girls, North Shelby Boys Get Wins in Shelby County Rivalry

South Shelby and North Shelby split their doubleheader rivalry tonight. The South Shelby Ladybirds won the first game 54-43 in a battle of state-ranked teams. North Shelby cut the Ladybirds lead to four late in the third before two Summer Hunolt threes and a Callie McWilliams and-one gave South Shelby a 13-point lead after three quarters.

Brandon Monty with the call on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. The Ladybirds used a 12-0 run that extended into the fourth quarter to secure the win. Ladybirds coach Luke O’Laughlin discussed the run to end the third.

North Shelby coach Chris Parsons said his team allowed too many second chance points.

South Shelby connected on nine 3-pointers from seven different players. Ladybirds senior Kaylee Gaines eclipsed 1,000 career points with a breakaway layup in the fourth. Miranda Patterson led all scorers with 18 points while Ava Williams led North Shelby with 15 points. South Shelby is now 9-1 while North Shelby falls to 8-1.

In the boys game, North Shelby edged the Cardinals 46-45. The game came down to the final possession.

South Shelby led from halfway through the first to midway through the fourth. The two teams traded baskets in the final minutes with North Shelby ultimately earning its fourth win of the year. Raiders coach Cody Stoneburner said it was a game of attrition.

South Shelby coach Kent O’Laughlin said his team made too many mistakes down the stretch.

South Shelby’s Noah Wilt paced all scorers with 15 points while Jade Daniel led the Raiders with 14 points. North Shelby is now 4-4 while South Shelby is 3-7.
