Representative Toalson Reisch Pleased With Education Package Passage

The Missouri House of Representatives advanced a wide-ranging education package late last week. Representative Cheri Toalson Reisch of Hallsville supported the bill.

The bill also boosts the minimum teacher salary from 25 thousand dollars to 40 thousand dollars, restricts four day school weeks, and boosts the number of teacher recruitment and retention scholarships. One measure Toalson Reisch pushed for is the expansion of charter schools to Boone County.

The bill passed by a narrow 82-69 vote. Many rural school districts have voiced concerns about the bill, including future funding. Toalson Reisch downplays those concerns.

The bill still needs the governor’s signature.
