Regular Season Tournaments Prepare Moberly Sixers for the Postseason

Strong performances at recent tournaments in Charleston and Washington have the Moberly Sixers American Legion baseball team ready for the postseason. At the Charleston Classic two weeks ago the Sixers went 2-2. Coach Drew Hunt said that included some strong challenges from outside of Missouri.

The Sixers bounced back the following day by beating Mayfield, Kentucky and the host Charleston Fighting Squirrels. Jackson Engel got the win against the hosts. He followed that up with a masterful performance the next week in the semifinals of the Washington Tournament.

Hunt discussed the key to Engel’s success at the high school level.

Moberly’s run at the Washington Tournament concluded with an 11-8 loss to the hosts. Washington had lost their first game of the season earlier in the tournament to the Aviston Express. Hunt said it was beneficial to see Washington ahead of the Zone Tournament.

The Sixers concludes the season Monday night with a doubleheader against Marceline. They return to Ronsick Field in Washington for the Zone 1 Tournament on Monday.
