Patterson’s Efforts Not Enough as South Shelby Falls to Skyline in Class 3 Quarterfinals

In the battle of the top two teams in Class 3, Second-ranked Skyline defeated first-ranked South Shelby 57-48 Saturday in a Class 3 Quarterfinal at Moberly Area Community College. The Ladybirds held a 36-34 lead going into the final quarter. However, Skyline used a 12-0 run from the end of the third quarter to the start of the fourth to grab control.

Colin Schowe with the calls on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com as Skyline built a 43-36 lead. The Ladybirds responded at the free throw line and then got back on level terms thanks to Miranda Patterson.

The tie was short-lived as Sadie Redd hit a three-pointer on the ensuing possession and the Lady Tigers finished the 90 seconds of the game at the free throw line to close out the game. Skyline’s defense held the Ladybirds to five made field goals in the second half. South Shelby coach Luke O’Laughlin explained his offense’s issues down the stretch.

Miranda Patterson led the Ladybirds with 25 points. South Shelby concludes the season with a record of 25-5. Patterson is among five seniors graduating from the South Shelby program. O’Laughlin said things will be different without this senior class.

Ashlyn Garrett led four different Lady Tigers in double figures with 16 points. Skyline will make its 16th Show-Me Showdown appearance Friday when they face Fair Grove.
