The Northeast R-IV School District finished the current school year with about a $50,000 surplus, and Cairo is planning for a similar budget for next school year. Superintendent Darren Rapert says the school board approved moving about $162,000 into the capital projects fund, with some of that money being used to repaint the track.

The district will hire specialists to repaint the track.

Summer school ends Thursday in Cairo. Rapert says about 65 or 70 kids participated this year.
