North Shelby Girls Claim First Basketball District Title in 20 Years

For the first time in 20 years, the North Shelby girls basketball team collected a district title. The Lady Raiders defeated Marion County 62-38 in the Class 1 District 11 championship game. After a timid start which saw the Lady Raiders only up by four, an 8-0 run at the end of the first half provided some comfort.

Daniel expanded on the Lady Raiders execution after the slow start.

Four Lady Raiders reached double figures with sophomore Ava Williams scoring a team-high 13 points. Marion County coach Reed Plunkett said first half foul trouble, and North Shelby’s first half run proved costly.

Lady Mustang junior Olivia Wood scored a game-high 14 points. North Shelby improves to 17-5 and next face Meadville in the Class 1 sectionals Wednesday. Marion County finishes the season 14-10. You can hear full postgame interviews with Daniel and Plunkett online at centralmoinfo.com.
