Nier Reflects on Successful Tenure at Meadville

For the past ten years, Drew Nier has been a fixture of Meadville’s athletic programs. He recently announced his departure to take the high school principal position at Carrollton. Nier served as Meadville’s boys’ basketball coach from 2014 up until this past season. He says that first season in charge was one of the most memorable.

The Eagles won four district titles across Niers’ seven years as head coach. One of his former players, Ryan Young, took over as the boys’ coach this past season, leading Meadville to a 12-13 record. Nier says Young played a key role on another memorable Meadville team.

Nier also served as Meadville’s girls basketball coach for the past two years. He also had stints as Meadville’s softball and track coaches. Nier says those memories off of the hardwood will also stick in his heart and mind.

Along with his coaching duties, Nier served as Meadville’s athletic director and principal. The school’s new athletic director will be Megan Fletcher and the new girls’ basketball coach is Steve Carvajal.
