New Sturgeon Superintendent Excited to Return to the Area

The Sturgeon School District recently announced the hiring of Dr. Melea Franklin as their new Superintendent. Franklin spent 13 years serving as an English teacher in the Marceline School District. Franklin says the time she spent at Marceline was a great experience early in her career.

Franklin then departed from Marceline to take a job with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. There, she served as the department’s English Assessment Director. Franklin says her time at DESE gave her a broader picture of education in Missouri.

Since 2016 Franklin has worked in the Ozark School District. She currently serves as their Executive Director of Secondary Learning. Her job at Sturgeon will be the first time she has worked as a Superintendent. Franklin shares what her first steps will be as Sturgeon Superintendent.

Franklin will take over for Geoff Neill beginning July 1st. Neill is departing Sturgeon to become the Superintendent for the Gasconade County R-1 School District in Hermann.
