One concern numerous local school superintendents have expressed in putting the new academic calendar together is the later start that is now required by state law. Brent Ghan, a spokesman for the Missouri School Boards Association, says they would like to see that changed.
As a result of the later start, many districts are going with unbalanced semesters, with more days in the second semester.
Under the legislation, the earliest a school could start next year is August 24th.
