Monroe City’s Holland Hits Buzzer Beating OT Game Winner, Moberly Girls Hold Off Rally

Austin Ward with the call of Brent Holland’s game-winner on Glory 97 and centralmoinfo.com. Holland finished the night with a game-high 19 points. Coach Brock Edris says he expects a good season from the sophomore.

Monroe led 25-24 at half and scored the first six points of the third quarter before the Spartans responded.

Doubrava had 12 points. Mason Bivins led the way with five threes and 17 points. The Panthers held for last possession of regulation but traveled before they could get a shot off. Moberly’s inbound attempt with 0.8 seconds left was intercepted to send it to OT tied at 46. Coach Brett Boyer was proud of the fight.

In the girls game, Moberly held off Monroe City 54-44. The Lady Spartans used a 10-0 run to start the third quarter to push their lead to 19 before Monroe started chipping away. Moberly had an answer each time the Lady Panthers got close.

Monroe hung around in the final frame.

Naaron Hays and Taylor Pfaff led Monroe with 12 and 11. Coach Adam Rung said taking care of the ball helped his team get back in it.

Both Monroe City teams host Canton Monday. The Moberly girls next play at Class 6 Battle Tuesday. The boys are off until next Friday when they host Oak Grove.
