Earlier this year, Governor Mike Parson approved the Legislature’s plan to expand I-70 to three lanes each way across the state. This came after a previous recommendation from the governor called for the interstate to expand to three lanes in the St. Louis and Kansas City metro areas. MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Kevin James says preliminary work is underway.
The estimated cost is 2.8 billion dollars. James says this will require some significant manpower.
Design plans are also being worked out for a new I-70 and Highway 63 connector in Columbia.
