Moberly Boys Come Back on Boonville, Girls Hold Off Furious Rally

The Moberly boys notched a comeback victory while the girls held off a furious rally in a sweep of Boonville Thursday night.

Moberly won the boys game 48-42. The Spartans trailed 9-4 after one quarter and 23-18 at half. Boonville pushed the lead to 28-18 before Moberly scored 12 of the next 15 points to cut the deficit to one, but the Pirates scored the final four points of the third quarter to lead 35-30. The Spartans finally broke through in the fourth thanks to the hot hand of Cameron Doubrava.

Moberly moves to 5-2 and Boonville falls to 4-3.

The Moberly girls held on for a 50-43 win. The Lady Spartans led by 17 early in the fourth quarter before Karagyn Cooper sparked a rally for Boonville.

That cut the deficit to eight and the Lady Pirates kept pushing.

Late makes by Grace Billington and Mia Faught helped Moberly hold off the comeback. Coach Tony Vestal…

Asa Fanning and Billington scored 20 and 14 respectively. Boonville was paced by 17 points from Zoe Davis. Coach Jared Runyon said it was a tale of two halves.

The Lady Spartans are 6-1 while Boonville drops to 4-2. Both Moberly teams are right back at it when they travel to Marshall Friday. Steven Findley Jr. will have the call on KRES with pregame around 6:15.
