Moberly Basketball Splits With Marshall in Regular Season Finale

The Moberly basketball teams split with Marshall in their regular season finales Thursday night.

The Lady Spartans defeated Marshall 71-45, marking a season-high scoring output for Moberly. The Spartans scored 22 third quarter points. Sophomore Kennedy Messer tallied a game-high 26 points, and freshman Grace Billington added 25. Tony Vestal’s Lady Spartans have scored 50 plus points in five straight games.

The 10-13 Lady Spartans host Hannibal for a district quarterfinal game Saturday. Marshall falls to 8-10.

In the boys game, Jaisten Payne scored a career-high 45 points, but the Spartans still fell to the Owls 71-69. Moberly held a 13 point advantage midway through the third quarter. Spartans coach Cord Hagedorn said from that point forward, Moberly played like they thought they had the game in the bag.
