Mizzou Quiz Bowl Among Top Contenders For Nationals

The University of Missouri’s quiz bowl team will venture to Chicago for Saturday’s Intercollegiate Championship Tournament, sponsored by NAQT.  The team led by freshmen Owen Arneson and Braden Booth will compete in Division Two, featuring players competing at their first collegiate championship.  Arneson tells Regional Radio that while he’s identified a pair of potential challengers, the team is primarily focused on improving their game.

For Booth, it’s a return trip to the site where his Fair Grove Eagles dominated the competition to win last year’s Small School National Championship Tournament.  He explains how he’s had to adjust to the more difficult questions.

Mizzou qualified for nationals by winning an online sectional hosted by Arizona State.  Booth ranked second individually with 90.9 points per 20 tossups heard.  He said the team quickly got into a groove and never looked back.

Mizzou defeated the University of British Columbia to lock up their bid to nationals, ranking first among all teams that qualified across 15 sites.  Freshman Doug Sachs and junior Drew Scheiner are also on this year’s team.
