Mexico Boys Avenge First Loss in Dominant Fashion

Both Mexico teams earned impressive victories versus NCMC rival Moberly Tuesday. The second-ranked Bulldogs won 81-45. Moberly trimmed its deficit to 35-32 with 2:15 left in the first half, but Mexico countered with a 10-1 run.

Spartan junior Jaisten Payne offered 17 points. 13-1 Mexico avenged Thursday’s loss to Moberly in the Macon Tournament. Bulldogs head coach Darren Pappas evaluated the performance.

Mexico outscored Moberly 24-5 in the third quarter.

The Mexico girls defeated Moberly 60-37 in the first contest. The Lady Spartans led 12-11 after the first quarter before the Lady Bulldogs delivered a 35-13 run in the middle quarters. Mexico head coach Ed Costley explained what changed.

Freshman guard Riley Blevins finished with 17 for the 11-3 Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 2-0 in conference. Tony Vestal’s Lady Spartans sit 6-9 and 1-1 in the NCMC.

Lady Spartan sophomore Kennedy Messer recorded a team-high 11 points. Moberly welcomes Kirksville for a rescheduled game Tuesday.
