Marceline Powers its Way to a State Title

The Marceline Lady Tigers used two home runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Sherwood 4-1 and claim the Class 2 State Championship Saturday afternoon in Springfield. Through six innings the lone offense for Marceline was a solo home run by Ireland Bloss to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth. With the game still tied in the top of the seventh, Bloss struck again.

Colin Schowe with the call on 99.9 The Captain and centralmoinfo.com of Bloss’ second home run of the game and team-leading eighth of the season. Addison Huber followed with a single. That set Gracey Jordan up to provide some insurance for a second game in a row.

The homer was Jordan’s second in as many games and sixth of the year. In total Marceline hit a school-record 37 home runs for the season. The Lady Marksmen brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh. However, Cassidy Rodgers coaxed Sherwood’s Mackenzie Roofener into a groundout and then struck out Kennedy Diggs to secure the school’s first softball state title. Marceline head coach Todd Lowther detailed the changes they made at the plate over the course of the game.

Sherwood scored their lone run off three walks by Rodgers and a Marceline error in the first inning. Lowther said Rodgers did a great job adjusting after the first.

Rodgers finished the game with ten strikeouts while allowing one unearned run on four hits and three walks. The win sends six Lady Tiger seniors off as state champions. Lowther saluted the seniors and looked forward to the future for Marceline softball.

Marceline concludes the season with 20 consecutive wins and a 28-3-1 record. You can hear the full interview with Coach Lowther online at centralmoinfo.com.
