Marceline and Monroe City Meet Up in Class 2 Softball Quarterfinal

The Marceline Lady Tigers and Monroe City Lady Panthers meet Wednesday in the Class 2 state softball quarterfinals. Lady Tigers coach Todd Lowther has Marceline back in the quarterfinals for a second straight year after graduating five starting seniors from last year’s third place team.

Marceline is 23-1 and currently ranked third in the MHSFCA Class 2 rankings. Monroe City is making their first state quarterfinal appearance in quite sometime after defeating state runner-up Palmyra 11-3 in Saturday’s district title game. Lady Panthers coach Melissa Chinn…

19-6 Monroe City is ranked 10th. The Lady Panthers are led by senior pitcher Riley Quinn, and catcher Bailee Hays. The first team CCC battery have combined for 95 strikeouts, 37 walks, and a 2.70 ERA. Lowther says Marceline has a lot of respect for Monroe City.

Marceline features the Lewis & Clark conference player of the year Ciarrah Bell. The senior left fielder has driven in 34 runs, and has yet to strikeout. Chinn scouts the Lady Tigers.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state quarterfinal winners will not make the traditional trip to Springfield until the state championship game.
