Lindenwood University athletics announced yesterday (Thur) that the football program will opt out of the 2021 spring season. The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced back in October the format for the 2021 spring schedule. The schedule featured several new elements, including a season-opening countable scrimmage, divisional play, and the league’s first-ever GLVC Championship game; all in a reduced spring schedule to ensure the league’s safe return to competition during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lindenwood Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Brad Wachler was quoted as saying “Due to injuries at critical positions, we believe it is in the best interest of our football program and student-athletes to engage in a traditional spring practice schedule and focus on preparations for the fall season” (end quote).

Truman State is slated to scrimmage McKendree on March 27th, then play three games against teams in their West side pool starting at Southwest Baptist on April 1st, home against William Jewell on April 10th, and at Missouri S&T on April 15th. The GLVC spring football season is scheduled to conclude the weekend of April 24 with crossover games between the East and West.
