Lady Spartan Freshman Billington Sets Single-game Scoring Record in Win Versus Warrenton

The Moberly girls outlasted Warrenton on Grace Billington’s record night, and the Moberly boys lost to Boonville in a home doubleheader Wednesday.

Billington scored a school-record 43 points in Moberly’s 61-55 victory.

Eric Duick with the calls on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com. The last of those Billington buckets handed Moberly a 52-48 lead in the middle of the fourth quarter. The freshman delivered 21 of her 43 points in the second half. Lady Spartan head coach Tony Vestal reacted to Billington’s historic night.

Billington provided her record-setting points at the free throw line.

Billington’s 43 points surpassed Ashley Agee’s 40-point effort against Grain Valley in the 2004-05 season. Moberly entered the third and fourth quarters with a one-point advantage before Billington created separation. Vestal evaluated the state of the 4-4 Lady Spartans at the holiday break.

Moberly meets Hallsville January 5th. 1-1 Warrenton next visits Orchard Farm.

After the Warrenton boys canceled, Boonville faced Moberly in the second contest. The Pirates topped the Spartans 75-62 in their first game in three weeks. Boonville trailed 20-16 after the first quarter, but the Pirates then grabbed a five-point edge at half and a 17-point lead after three. Pirates head coach Mark Anderson explained the turnaround.

Senior Charlie Bronakowski recorded 29 points for 4-2 Boonville. Moberly head coach Cord Hagedorn shared a positive from the loss.

Moberly junior Jaisten Payne finished with 20 points. Sophomore Derieus Wallace added a career-high 16. 3-4 Moberly visits reigning Class 3 semifinalist Monroe City Saturday. Boonville battles Eldon January 6th. Hear full postgame interviews with the coaches below.
