La Plata Sweeps, Westran Girls Win at MACC Holiday Shootout

Fitzsimmons-John Arena was the location for three Big K basketball matchups as part of the MACC Peak Sport & Spine Holiday Shootout.

The La Plata boys and girls earned a sweep over Paris. The girls contest started the day as the Lady Dogs outlasted the Lady Coyotes 43-34. La Plata sophomore Layne Mack came up big in the second.

La Plata improves to 9-1. Paris falls to 3-8.

The Bulldogs took down the Coyotes 38-33 in game two. Paris senior Colton Kendrick lifted his team to a one-point lead at the half after scoring 13 points in the second quarter.

Both teams were tied at 29 after three. La Plata converted from the line and defended well down the stretch to grab the victory. Paxtyn Jones led the way with 11.

Colton Kendrick finished with 19 points in the loss. The Coyotes drop to 2-8. The Bulldogs improve to 4-6.

The Westran Lady Hornets hung on late to take down the Hallsville Lady Indians 52-42. Westran generated a 15-point lead at the end of three. Six different Westran players scored in the big frame.

Kate Hollman scored 15 points to lead Westran. Coach Alex Thomas was proud of his sophomore.

Hallsville’s Emily Stockamp finished with a team-high 12 points. The win pushes Westran to 7-3, and surpasses last year’s win total for the Lady Hornets.

Hallsville falls to 4-4.
