La Plata Splits Doubleheader With Sturgeon on Senior Night

The La Plata girls and Sturgeon boys both pulled away late to split a pair of games Monday night.

The La Plata Lady Dogs used their fourth quarter surge to take down Sturgeon 44-28. In the first, Sturgeon jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Five lead changes were exchanged before La Plata grabbed a 20-16 lead at the half. The Lady Dogs put their foot on the gas in the final frame.

Four different Sturgeon players scored four or more points for the 7-13 Lady Bulldogs. Coach Michael Smith.

Aydan Wilhite had a team-high 8 points for Sturgeon. La Plata advances to 17-3.

The Sturgeon Bulldogs reversed the opening result, as a big second half led to a 60-42 win over La Plata. Trailing 17-15 after the first half, Sturgeon found the offense through senior Isaac Bolles.

Bolles finished with a team-high 24 points. Coach Jacob Youse said Bolles led a balanced offensive attack.

La Plata was outscored 25-45 in the second half. Senior Tucker Beautte scored 13 points for the Bulldogs. Coach Chad Zeigler pointed to the third quarter as the difference.

La Plata falls to 5-14 while Sturgeon improves to 9-12.
