Kirksville Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles after reports of vehicles being stolen, and items being stolen from vehicles in Kirksville and surrounding communities. A red 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 extended cab truck with Missouri license 17H9FV was reported stolen from the 700 block of East Cottonwood Street early Monday morning. In multiple cases, the victim’s vehicle was unlocked and the stolen items were in plain view from outside the vehicle. Kirksville Police remind drivers to lock their vehicles even when going inside to pay after filling up with gas. Do not leave your keys or anything of value on display in your car. Take high-value items with you, such as your wallet, phone, backpack, and laptops. If your car has an alarm, make sure to use it. If your car has been broken into, inform your neighbors because thieves often target cars in the same street. If you have security cameras at your home, make sure that at least one covers where your car is typically parked.
