Jenkins Excited for Move to Slater Football Program
After serving as an assistant coach in recent years, Mitchell Jenkins is returning to a varsity head coaching role in 2024. Jenkins was introduced as the new head coach of the Slater Wildcats during last week’s school board meeting. He says he’s looking forward to his move to Slater.
Jenkins was the head coach at Missouri Military Academy from 2016 to 2019. Following his stint with the Colonels he was an assistant coach at Hallsville under coach Justin Conyers. Jenkins says Conyers has helped shape his coaching career.
Jenkins spent the 2023 season as a head coach at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City. He inherits a Slater program that went 1-9 last year in its first season of eight-man football. Jenkins says he’s excited for his first experience in eight-man football.
Jenkins met with prospective Slater players last week. He says the spring and summer months will be important for the Wildcats.
Slater will open the 2024 season at home against Wellington-Napoleon on August 30th.
