Investigation Underway Following Double Homicide in Columbia

Two people are dead and three are injured following a shooting in Columbia at 12:15am Sunday. Columbia police responded to the incident in the area of Volunteer Drive and Grace Lane. They located four shooting victims and made the decision to load the victims into their vehicles and transport them to local emergency rooms for immediate medical attention. Two women and one man were treated for non-life threatening injuries. However, two people, 38-year old Tara Knedler of Columbia and an 11-year-old girl from Columbia were pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and the Columbia Police Department has detained one person of interest. The investigation is being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division.
