Higbee to Face Class 1 Powerhouse South Iron in Show-Me-Showdown Debut

The Higbee Tigers will be playing the role of underdog when they faceoff with the top-ranked South Iron Panthers Friday morning at JQH Arena. The Class 1 Semifinal marks the deepest any Higbee basketball team has ever gone in a season. Higbee coach Tanner Burton says the impact of what this team has accomplished is still sinking in.

The 19-5 Tigers booked their ticket to Springfield with a 45-38 win last week against Green City. Freshman Derek Rockett led the team with 14 points in the victory. Higbee now turns their attention to the South Iron juggernaut. Burton says his team has to cut down on turnovers if they hope to be successful.

South Iron comes in with a record of 23-4 and a schedule that includes a win against Class 6 power C.B.C. Three of their losses were to teams who won district championships in Classes 4 and 5. South Iron coach Dusty Dinkins says that tough schedule has prepared his team for their postseason run.

The Panthers are coming off a 105-67 win over Delta in the Class 1 quarterfinal round. That game marked the fourth time South Iron eclipsed 100 points this season. Pregame coverage of the Class 1 Semfinal between Higbee and South Iron will come your way at 9:45 am on KTCM 97.3 FM and centralmoinfo.com.
