Harrisburg Rallies for District Championship Win Over Salisbury

The Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs used another big second half rally to defeat the top-seeded Salisbury Lady Panthers in the Class 2 District 7 Championship game by a final score of 47-36. Salisbury led by as many as ten points in the first half and were up 23-16 at halftime. However, Harrisburg’s Brecca Thornhill would lead the second half rally.

Thornhill scored 13 of her 15 points in the third quarter as Harrisburg opened up a 34-29 lead at the end of three quarters. Baylie Combs led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points which included shooting 7-8 from the free throw line. Harrisburg coach Ryan Richardson said it took a total team effort to come out on top.

A total of eight different Lady Bulldogs scored in the victory. Meanwhile, Salisbury’s top scorer Khloe Wyatt was held to just three points and the Lady Panthers managed to hit only one three-pointer in the game. Salisbury coach Wade Billington said the offense fell apart in the second half.

Salisbury was led by Rachel Fessler with eleven points. The Lady Panthers’ lone senior, Brooke Bartholomew concluded her high school career with six points. With the majority of the roster set to stay intact for next season, Billington is optimistic for the future.

Salisbury concludes the season with a record of 15-7. Harrisburg improves to 13-15 and captures their first district title since 2012. They will face Eugene on Wednesday in the sectional round.
