HARC To Host Watermelon Production Field Day

The University of Missouri’s Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center outside New Franklin will host a watermelon production field day May 26th from 1 to 3 p.m.  MU Extension Field Specialist Kathi Mechum is organizing the event and says the fruit can be grown across Northern Missouri.

Mechum says the HARC has experimented with watermelon production the past two years.  She says the field day will highlight the importance of using protective systems like low and high tunnels to get a head start on the traditional summer treat.

The watermelon production field day will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 26th, rain or shine, and is free to attend.  Details and a registration form are available on the University of Missouri Extension website.
