Hallsville Knocks Off Top Seed Macon in Extras to Clinch District Title

Hallsville baseball attained a district title by defeating the tournament host and top seed Macon 4-2 in eight innings Wednesday night. Macon grabbed the initial lead early.

Austin Ward with the call on KWIX, Glory 97 and centralmoinfo.com. Hallsville tied the game in the top of the third on an RBI double by AJ Austene and RBI single from Aaron Orscheln. The Tigers nearly regained the lead in the sixth.

Austene led off the eighth inning with a ground rule double and later scored on a sac fly to give Hallsville the lead. Ayden Lampkins provided insurance with an RBI single. The Indians got 7 1/3 innings out of Andrew Orscheln and he surrendered two runs, three hits, six walks and struck out 11. Andrew Kabrick recorded the final two outs. Coach James Smith said Orscheln was terrific.

Macon’s Jakeb Swallow was removed after Austene’s eighth inning double and charged the loss. He was tagged for three runs, six hits and three walks while striking out 10. Alex Alton delivered the final inning. Coach Kyle Robuck said his team struggled to get going offensively.

Smith reacted to winning a district title in his first year as head coach after taking over for Barry Koeneke, who led Hallsville’s baseball program for 46 years.

The Indians are now 12-11 and will face the winner of Thursday’s Southern Boone/Blair Oaks game in sectionals. Macon’s season comes to an end at 19-3.
