Greyhounds Preparing for Midwest District Championship

The 19th-ranked Moberly Greyhounds earned a slot in the NJCAA Midwest District Championship Game with Saturday’s 75-71 Region 16 Title win over Mineral Area. Sophomore guard Freddie Cooper tied for a team-high 14.

He said it was a team effort.

Sophomore guard Xavier Sykes said beating the Cardinals on their floor was even more special than beating them last year in Jefferson City.

The Greyhounds went 24-of-26 from the free throw line, with Sykes going 8-of-10.

Sykes and Cooper were both named to the All-Region First Team, along with Akili Evans and Tekao Carpenter. Coach Pat Smith praised the sophomore class on Saturday.

The Greyhounds will face the 7th-ranked Triton Trojans Saturday in suburban Chicago. Moberly is 25-7. Triton is 30-2. The winner gets an automatic berth in the national tournament in Hutchinson. J.B. Connoley will have Saturday’s pregame at 2:50, tip at 3 on Information Radio KWIX and centralmoinfo.com.
