Greyhounds Going Dancing Again

The Moberly Greyhounds have been invited to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, for a 32nd time, as they were chosen as one of the eight at-large teams for the 24-team field. The Greyhounds will be the 14th seed, and play the 19th seed, Connors State of Oklahoma, next Monday morning at ten. Coach Pat Smith told his players he would have been disappointed for them if they didn’t get in.

Moberly, now 25-8, was ranked 19th in the final poll. Connors State at 31-2 was unranked, and earned a berth by winning the Region Two Tournament. Smith says it wasn’t a sure thing his team was in.

That Monday slot traditionally opened the tournament, but it’s now the seventh first-round game, as the tournament will start on Sunday to allow for an off-day for the two finalists on Friday. The winner of the Moberly-Connors State game will play third seed, Salt Lake of Utah, Tuesday at 5.

Mineral Area, ranked sixth in the final men’s poll, did not get an at-large berth.
