Director’s House On State Fairgrounds Comes Down

The Missouri State Fair bid farewell to a century-old structure on the fairgrounds Wednesday, but not without some unusually strong reactions. A demolition crew brought down the Director’s House along U.S. Route 65, near the Nucor Director’s Pavilion. Photos of the demolition posted on the Fair’s Facebook page generated several dozen comments from fairgoers, most of them expressing shock and disappointment about the building’s removal:

Fair director Mark Wolfe says that while it was bittersweet to see the house go, the years had ultimately taken their toll.

Wolfe adds that plans to remove the structure had been in the works for several years, including a line item in the state budget.

Missouri State Fair director Mark Wolfe notes that a replacement Director’s House is slated for construction in the next couple of years, but an exact location and design have yet to be finalized.
