The latest research, techniques and legal developments involving the pork industry were featured Wednesday at the Swine Institute, hosted in Sedalia by the University of Missouri and the Missouri Pork Association. MU Extension Program Director Rob Kallenbach says one area stressed was the need for pork producers to get involved with the communities in which their farms are located.

Kallenbach notes that producer surveys help determine which topics MU and Missouri Pork decide to present at the institute as well as the Swine Health Institute in July.

About 40 people attended Wednesday’s Swine Institute, hearing from speakers about developing nutrient management plans, designing farrowing and feeding facilities, and the most effective ways to handle on-farm mortalities.
