Chism Wants Jury Trial

The attorney for Callaway County Sheriff John Clayton “Clay” Chism requested a jury trial for Chism Monday. Chism pleaded not guilty in November in connection to his arrest in the parking lot of the Moberly Arby’s the previous month. According to the probable cause statement, Moberly Police were called to the parking lot the night of October 6th in regards to a pickup that had hit a concrete barrier. There they found the 43-year-old Chism asleep in the driver’s seat of the truck. A pool of vomit was on the ground outside the truck, and some was also on the sleeve of his sweatshirt. Officers found a three-quarters empty can of hard lemonade in the cup holder, a strong smell of alcohol, and described Chism’s eyes as –quote–“watery, glassy, and bloodshot”– end quote. Police found pieces of the truck’s bumper and one license plate on the ground near the concrete barrier. Chism faces charges of resisting or interfering with an arrest and misdemeanor DWI.
