Farmers who experienced income losses as a result of commodity price declines stemming from the coronavirus pandemic can now file to receive assistance from USDA. Brown says farmers that previously signed up for payments through the Market Facilitation Program should already have much of their data on file with their local Farm Service Agency office. He notes that producers will have to self-certify what qualifying crops and livestock they’ve had on hand earlier in the year.

A total of $16 billion is available for farmers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program. MU Extension livestock economist Scott Brown says farmers looking for guidance in filling out their application can contact their county’s Extension office or visit the Extension website.
