Cairo Alum Matthews Excited to Lead Ladycat Softball

For the first time in 20 years, Cairo softball will have a new head coach. Jennifer Matthews takes over for Brian Winkler, who stepped down after taking the head boys basketball coaching position.

Cairo has played in a district title game for nine straight seasons and won four of them.

The Ladycats went 18-8 last year.

Matthews’ husband, Morgan, is the head baseball coach at Cairo.

Jennifer Matthews is a 2009 Cairo graduate and drove in the lone run of the game in Cairo’s 15-inning triumph over Silex for the 2007 state championship.
