Big Second Quarter Lifts Eugene Over Harrisburg

The Eugene Lady Eagles used a 15-0 run in the first half to advance past Harrisburg 55-39 in a Class 2 Sectional, Wednesday night. The Lady Eagles scored the final five points in the first quarter and the first ten points of the second quarter to open up a double-digit advantage. Eugene’s first half included some hot shooting from beyond the arc.

Harrisburg played even with Eugene in the second half but failed to make much of a dent in the deficit. Harrisburg coach Ryan Richardson said Eugene’s defense presented multiple challenges for them.

Senior Baylie Combs led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points and sophomore Brecca Thornhill chipped-in with eleven. Harrisburg graduates six seniors from this year’s team. Richardson shared his thoughts on his senior class.

Harrisburg concludes the season with a record of 13-16. Eugene featured a balanced attack with senior post player Kayla Bond leading the way with 16 points. Eugene coach Megan Brinkmann said her team played a great all-around game.

Eugene improves to 15-6 and advances to their first quarterfinal in program history. They will face Scotland County on Saturday.
