Assault In Lobby Of The Columbia Post Office

The Columbia Police Department is investigating an assault that took place early Monday morning in the lobby of the Columbia U.S. Post Office located at 511 East Walnut Street. According to a press release from the police department, a man whose name has not yet been released was assaulted around 1 a.m. The victim fled the scene and walked several blocks to the police department. While speaking with the victim, officers requested emergency medical personnel to assist them with the injured man. Officers arrived at the post office and arrested a Columbia resident, 43-year-old Eddie B. Linzie for assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. Linzie remains in custody at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. The victim had life-threatening injuries and no additional information is being released at this time.
