Veteran Roster and New Head Coach Lead Green City Boy’s Basketball

The Green City boy’s basketball team features something old and something new for the 2022-23 season. The Gophers have a new head coach in Matt Ayers, who is a 2007 Green City graduate. Ayers says his transition to becoming head coach has been aided by the former coach.

Donnie Fields had coached the Gophers for the past eleven seasons. Ayers inherits a deep roster with multiple returning starters. He says several players are expected to contribute on a nightly basis.

While the Gophers will look largely the same as in years past, Ayers says there is one change he is making.

The Gophers went 23-7 last season with an exit in the Class 1 Quarterfinal round. Green City opens the new season this coming week at the Novinger Tournament.
